Market Summary:
At the beginning of this video, I review some of the recent questions on investor’s minds. Rather than overthinking the macro picture, the biggest question in my view is: Will the strength in tech and the Nasdaq lift the market or will the weakness in other sectors weigh down on the overall market? My conclusion in recent videos is to remain defensive until we get more clarity. Over the past week, the Nasdaq Composite pulled back on light volume down to its 21-day EMA and bounced today on stronger volume. In addition, the price action in many growth stocks continues to improve. As you know, I judge the health of the market based on the price action and right now many stocks across several different sectors continue to act well. As I result, I increased my investment levels this week from 40% to 50% invested.
I’m still expecting volatility over the near-term, but I can ignore the upcoming positives: 1) New money tends to flow into the market at the beginning of the month and quarter. 2) April is statistically one of the stronger months of the year. 3) After the strong start to the year and a healthy consolidation, we could be heading into a seasonally strong time (see Ryan Detrick chart above). It’s possible that the Silicon Valley Bank situation was the perfect shakeout to create enough doubt and fear in the market before heading higher. Again, I am still open-minded to the macro concerns, but I remain a little more positive than most people because of the overall improvement in price action. If you have any questions, you can ask them during the next webinar which will be this Saturday, April 1st at 11AM EST. Thank you and good luck for the remainder of the week.
