Market Summary:
Coming into this week, I mentioned the things I would like to see showing me signs that the market’s health is improving. We got some of them so far this week. We haven’t seen any heavy selling. We saw a huge, above average volume accumulation day for the Nasdaq Composite. It wasn’t a follow through day, but it was the heaviest volume day since the recent 8/5 low. The S&P 500 is back above its 50-day. Also, it felt to me that sentiment got washed out early in Wednesday’s session, as the emotion from Tuesday night’s debate led to some irrational selling in my view. Again, as Warren Buffett says, if you mix your politics with your investing you’re making a big mistake.

Even when the market was down considerably on Wednesday, many of the stocks on our list were either green or barely down. This led me to increase my investment levels, as I noticed many relative strength names looking like they wanted to move higher. As I mention in this video, this type of active management isn’t for everyone. I do my best to show you what I’m doing for transparency purposes, but please keep in mind that I want you to develop your own style. If you can’t watch the market closely or if you have trouble making decisions, please use smaller positions and give them more room. For example, the 7 stocks/ETFs I mentioned in last week’s MidWeek Video have all worked out well so far, and none of them hit their suggested stops. Sometimes, I sell positions to reduce exposure, but I have no problem getting back in when I see conditions improve. From here, I could see strength into next week’s options expiration, but please keep in mind that we usually see weakness during the second half of September. In other words, stay positive on the market, but be prepared for more volatility towards the end of the quarter. Thank you and good luck for the remainder of the week.
