Market Summary:
As I mentioned in the past several videos, September is a seasonally weak month and some volatility is to be expected. For example, there was some index rebalancing that occurred near the market close last Friday, which is why we saw a spike in volume and volatility in the last 10-15 minutes of the session. For the remainder of the month, I am still expecting more volatility because we have a Fed meeting on September 22nd and we are likely to see some end-of-the-quarter portfolio adjustments. Following this, I am expecting a strong fourth quarter for the reasons I’ve outlined in recent videos. We just have to be patient as we get through the next 2-3 weeks.
In this video, I discuss many stocks and strong sectors that continue to act well. The overall strength I am seeing is the main reason I am bullish into year-end. Also, sentiment is fairly muted. For example, the S&P 500 is having a normal pullback to its 50-day moving average and the AAII Sentiment Survey (see link above) is seeing unusually bearish sentiment with the index approximately 2% off its highs.
