Market Summary:
The market continues to be in a strong trend. The major indexes are above their key moving averages, the Fed is on our side (and we don’t have to worry about interest rate policy until the next meeting on July 28), stocks are acting well, and the seasonality is strong as we head into the new month/new quarter. Short-term, we could see the market drift higher into the long holiday weekend. The first trading day of July has seen the S&P 500 up 28 of the last 32 times with an average gain of +0.50%. Again, these are just statistics and probabilities that tactical/short-term traders can possibly use to their advantage.

One negative is that we are a little extended from the 21-day on the Nasdaq Composite. If we drift higher into the end of the week, it could be a decent spot to lighten up if you are a trader. If you are longer-term, get those strong entry points and be patient through the inevitable pullbacks. Another negative is that less than 50% of S&P 500 stocks are above their 50-day moving averages. Some technicians say this weak breadth is a negative for the overall market. While I’m not complacent about this statistic, I explain in this video that the strong price action in the Mega Cap stocks overrides this concern. Of course, I will be watching if breadth continues to weaken, but it’s not a major concern for now.

As always, get strong entry points on your stocks and stay focused on the best growth names out there. I review many in this video that are working on handles to their new bases. Just be patient for safer entry points on some of the software stocks. If they provide decent setups, I will of course pass them along when they show up. Good luck for the remainder of the week, enjoy your long holiday weekend, and see you Monday, July 5th for the next video!
