Market Summary:
Since the beginning of the year, value-related stocks and the broader market have been acting better than growth stocks and growth-related indexes. This is important to me because I mostly trade growth stocks, as they tend to perform better over the long term. In other words, I was not looking to chase the strength in value, and preferred to patiently wait for better price action in growth. Recently, I was noticing subtle improvements in growth and I discussed them in last Wednesday’s MidWeek Video. Unfortunately, the accumulation day this past Wednesday was immediately met with two distribution days to end the week.

The market has now seen distribution in 4 of the past 7 weeks, and it’s worth being defensive until we see signs of this consistent selling slow down. As I mention in this video, I don’t want to get overly bearish because the NYSE Composite is in a strong trend, the Equal Weight S&P 500 (RSP) is in a strong trend, and many growth stocks in those four sectors I’ve discussed are also in strong trends. In other words, there’s more to the market than the Mag 7. The decisions you make should be based on your timeframe. For example, some stocks I like longer-term and I have strong entry points in them. As long as they are holding those key moving averages, I plan to stick with them. If you a shorter-term trader, it’s best to keep your trading light until conditions improve. Please remember that patience and discipline are big parts of longevity in the stock market. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
