Market Summary:
In this video, I review the technicals since the inflation (CPI) report on Thursday, October 13th. Since then, the market has absorbed the higher than expected inflation report, we’ve seen accumulation beneath the surface, and we had a Day 7 follow through day on Friday, October 21st. In addition, we have seen no distribution days on the Nasdaq Comp since that CPI report. It doesn’t mean we are out of the woods, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction for the bulls. Another positive is that all the major indexes closed above their 21-day EMAs. From here, I would like to see the Nasdaq Comp and S&P 500 do what the Dow Jones Industrial Average is doing. Specifically, see them hold above their 21-day EMAs, see no distribution, and then have additional follow through to get them closer to their 50-day moving averages.
One of the biggest negatives is the lack of growth stocks setting up. In preparing for the video, I reviewed close to 1,000 stocks and the majority of stocks looking good are from the Energy-related sectors. If the market continues to prove itself over the next week or two, we should hopefully see more growth stocks acting well. Again, patience is required and I am still expecting volatility over the near-term, but the overall price action this past week was definitely progress. If members have had a heavy cash position and are looking to put money to work, I’m ok with slowly increasing exposure through Index and/or Sector ETFs. I would still keep these positions light until hopefully some growth stocks setup soon. Thank you and enjoy the remainder of your weekend.
