Market Summary:
If you did well this year, congrats! This is just a reminder to stay focused, stay humble, keep working hard, and stick to your discipline. Also, keep your expectations realistic for 2021. While I expect another strong year for the markets, remember that 2020 was not a normal year and to maintain a level-headed approach into the new year. If you struggled in 2020, don’t beat yourself up. Do post analysis of your work and be honest with yourself. I find that most people struggle for two reasons: fear and their mind isn’t clear. If you had difficulties because of fear, start with smaller positions because you eventually need to build that muscle to overcome your fears. If your mind isn’t straight because of personal problems, work on fixing those first before you trade. You can’t approach anything in life without a clear head, especially trading. That’s why I spend the first part of the Educational Videos on maintaining a strong mindset and building your confidence. If you need to take some time off, there’s nothing wrong with doing so and coming back to the markets with a healthier state of mind.
I can make a case for the markets continuing higher in January. I can also make an argument for a pullback. I discuss the reasons for both in this video. The way I reconcile this scenario is to meet halfway. In other words, your investment level doesn’t have to be all or nothing. For example, there’s nothing wrong with being 50% invested. That way, if the market goes higher you can hopefully participate, and if the market goes lower, you hopefully won’t get hit too bad and also have some cash to put to work during the pullback. In my Tuesday update, I mentioned that I lowered my exposure to around 30%. During the second half of last week, I increased it back up to approximately 60%. I’m still not finding tons of setups, but I am finding some decent pullback buys. As always, the decisions you make and your overall investment exposure should be based on your own timeframe and risk tolerance. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend and see you Sunday, January 3rd at 7PM EST for the next webinar.
