Market Summary:
Half of me is thinking this market is incredibly resilient. It doesn’t seem to matter what the headlines are (economic reports, geopolitical, tariff related, interest rate/Fed related, etc.), the major indexes don’t seem to care and keep marching higher. I think the reason for this is the bigger picture theme I’ve discussed since 2023 that we are in a bull market powered by the growth in AI. We are still in a power trend, the major indexes are holding their key moving averages, there’s little distribution, and the leaders continue to act well.

The other half of me is thinking we are due for some sort of pullback, but as always, the market doesn’t care what we think or what we want. The reason we’re due for a pullback is that power trends tend to last about 3 months (we are 3 1/2 months into the current one), and the major indexes visit their 50-day moving average roughly every 3 months. However, coming out of deeper corrections, these trends can last longer. In this video, I review the 2020 covid correction where the power trend went on for 5 months before a pullback/consolidation occurred. I’m open-minded that the current market could continue higher before a consolidation. Maybe a pullback doesn’t happen until after Nvidia’s earnings at the end of August.

So, how do I reconcile all this? For me, it’s by meeting halfway and staying approximately 30-50% invested. That way, if the market moves higher, I will hopefully participate, and if the market pulls back, I hopefully don’t get hit as bad and will look to put money to work. I continue to stress the point that I’m not expecting a major correction because we just had one earlier this year. If the market pulls back, I will look to take positions in some of the stronger relative strength names, and do so closer to logical support because entry points are very important to me.

As always, please don’t copy me (or anyone else for that matter) and do what works for you. Please know your time frame and understand that actively managing a portfolio of stocks is not easy. It involves putting in the work, patience, discipline, and mental toughness. It’s not for everyone. If you are going to do it, please accept that you will never get the highs or the lows. Learn to make decisions and be ok with them. In the meantime, I’m going to keep my trading light, wait patiently for better entry points, and update you in these videos when anything important shows up. Thank you and enjoy your weekend.
