Market Summary:
Coming into last week, I mentioned to expect a pullback because: 1) The Nasdaq Composite was very extended from its 21-day EMA and 2) The week after regular cycle options expiration tends to see some profit taking. Overall, even though the market dropped last week, I thought the price action was healthy because it was a normal pullback on lighter volume. Yes, we did see a distribution day last Wednesday, May 21, but one day of distribution in the past few weeks is not a concern. Some profit taking is allowed along the way. From here, I am expecting a range and more consolidation, but as I mention in this video, the price action in many of the leading growth stocks continues to be strong and that is what is keeping me positive on the markets. I review many of these stocks in this video.
Remember the main guidelines during power trends: 1) Use the 21-day as your guide. In other words, if we are extended from this level, don’t be surprised to see minor pullbacks through price and/or through time. 2) Expose yourself to strong stocks and ETFs. Between the Focus List and the other stocks, there are plenty of ideas in these videos. 3) Get strong entry points near the 21-day and 50-day moving averages. 4) Manage your trades as best as possible based on your timeframe, risk tolerance, and overall investment plan. I can give guidelines, but ultimately, you need to decide what position sizes to use, the number of positions to own, when to take profits, and where to set your stop losses. Thank you and enjoy the remainder of your long weekend.
