Market Summary:
In this video, I review the positives and negatives in the market. One positive is that after the Follow Through Day (FTD) on Monday January 31, we’ve seen very little distribution. The accumulation was followed up today with another “follow through” type day on the Nasdaq Composite. In addition, the Russell 2000 had a Day 8 FTD on Tuesday. The biggest negative is that these indexes are still below their respective 200-day moving averages. So, the big question is have we bottomed? Or are we just going to run into some key moving averages before another leg down? My gut says the latter, but I will of course be open-minded. The biggest factor that will help answer this question is whether stocks setup over the next few weeks.
Whenever there’s a mixed picture, I always say there’s nothing wrong with meeting half way. In other words, you don’t have to be fully invested. I am currently 40% invested in some of the strong stocks I discuss in this video. That way, if we continue higher, I can hopefully participate and add to my exposure if needed. If we head lower, the large cash position will hopefully help reduce the downside, and I can always reduce exposure if needed. Conclusion: I still it’s worth being defensive and using lighter than normal positions until the market proves itself a little better. Again, be patient and wait for a clearer picture. Thank you and good luck for the remainder of the week.
