Market Summary:
In this video, I discuss some of the reasons why the market corrected the past two weeks, and I also talk about ways to help minimize volatility during these seismic corrections. The biggest question on investors minds right now is: Was this recent sharp pullback just a shakeout before a year-end rally? Or was it the beginning of a bigger correction? Of course, no one knows the answer, but I’m leaning towards a shakeout for the following reasons: 1) The QQQ and SPY held their respective 50-day moving averages 2) The strong seasonality 3) Many stocks are holding up well (I discuss them in this video) 4) Liquidity. Even if the the Fed tapers more quickly than people expect, they are still providing a low-interest rate and equity-friendly environment 5) I’m trying to be optimistic because I’ve never met a rich pessimist 6) I underestimated the extreme negativity that was created during the recent market drop. Certain sentiment measures reached high extremes, almost capitulation-like.
From here, I would still use lighter positions until we get a clearer picture. As I always say, when the market could go either way, I will always lean defensive in order to protect members. Your decisions should be based on your own investment objectives and risk tolerance. I am currently 50% invested, but please keep in mind that it is subject to change, and that I am able to make decisions quickly when needed. If you have any questions or would like me to review any stocks not covered in this video, you can ask them during the next webinar, which will be Saturday, December 11th at 11AM EST. I will go through some of my stock screens during the webinar. Thank you and good luck for the remainder of the week.
