Market Summary:
As I discussed in last weekend’s video, we needed to get through this seasonally weak period. Coming into this week, I was specifically looking for a follow through day, the major indexes to get back above their 50-day moving averages, and for the price action of stocks to firm up. Although we haven’t seen the first two yet, one of the most positive developments so far this week is the price action of growth stocks. Many of them continue to march ahead without major participation from the indexes. As a result, I increased my investment levels earlier this week. We’re still not out of the woods, but I’m encouraged by the price action and I discuss many of the stocks in this video.

I would still like to see a follow through day either later this week or next week. This would show that the big institutions are committing capital back into this market. Another positive sign was the price action in Apple on Wednesday. After the close on Tuesday, the company announced that they would slow down their iPhone production due to supply chain problems. As I always say, it’s not the news, but the market’s reaction to the news that matters. I like how the Nasdaq was strong on Wednesday and that Apple was only down 60 cents for the day. Given the news, most would’ve expected it to be down more.

Regarding the Fed minutes and interest rates, if yields were going much higher, then software names wouldn’t be acting so well because higher rates affect higher valuation stocks. Also, there was some put writing in some housing related stocks (which is a bullish sign). I’m interpreting this as the housing market wouldn’t do well if interest rates were going much higher longer-term. Again, be patient until the market continues to prove itself, but so far this week, the price action is positive. Good luck for the remainder of the week!
