Market Summary:
So far this week, the Nasdaq Composite continues to digest its gains from the first half of April. The S&P 500 is doing the same and barely giving any gains back. I don’t want to overcomplicate things or micromanage the market. I prefer to keep things simple. I think you can sum up the market’s price action with one word: resilience. That doesn’t mean we should be complacent. It’s still very important to get strong entry points and have a loss cutting policy when any position turns against you, but overall, I would be patient and stick to the trend. For the remainder of the week, I could see more sideways action or possibly a quick end of the month profit-taking shakeout, but heading into next week, we could see the uptrend resume as new money tends to flow into the market at the beginning of the month.
Every six weeks, the Federal Reserve meets to discuss their interest rate policy. Today, Fed Chair Powell said nothing new. The Fed is not raising rates anytime soon, nor are they slowing down or “tapering” their bond buying purchases. Of course, we will still see shakeouts and pullbacks along the way, but the Fed is continuing to provide a strong, equity-friendly backdrop for the market.
Regarding stocks, do your best to stay focused on the best ones out there. In this video, I review the names from my recent focus list. There are many stocks outside of this list that are acting well, and of course you can trade whatever you want. I just recommend getting strong entry points no matter what you trade. I’m simply reminding members to stay focused on some of the best stocks and accept that you can’t own everything. Part of maturing as a trader is getting over FOMO (fear of missing out) and staying focused on a concentrated group of stocks. As always, there’s nothing wrong with owning a combination of some market or sector ETFs and individual stocks. Good luck for the remainder of the week!
